My will

It’s important to make sure your Will sets out how your assets should be distributed, otherwise ‘intestacy’ applies, and your assets will be divided according to a legal formula.

Intestacy laws differ in each State and Territory. They help to determine who gets what, who’s responsible for making sure it happens and what needs to be done. Leaving a Will is the only way you can make sure your assets are dealt with the way you want. The alternative is for your assets to be divided up amongst family members who you might have preferred to get nothing. If there are no family members, your assets may go to the Crown.
